About me
I started painting in 2018 after a particularly stressful few years, as a desperate attempt to carve out some time for myself. Having been to a weekend painting course, I was hooked, and I haven't stopped painting and learning since!
My style is loose, intuitive and energetic with bold, expressive mark-making using a variety of tools and techniques. Working mainly in acrylics and mixed media, I incorporate layers of rich, juicy paint and thin glazes to create depth, using elements of collage and mixed media such as water soluble pencils and crayons to create texture and interest. I love using my own prints, found papers, old book pages or music sheets, and every piece of paper I find during my day is considered collage fodder!
The variety of wonderful colours that the weather and scenery of both Scotland and further afield provide, form the basis of my palette, with contrasting hues and bright accents adding unexpected pops of interest. Mark-making creates texture and depth in my work.
I also venture into other mediums such as collage, pen and ink sketching, watercolour and oils and have an addiction to my Gelli plate, creating most of my own collage materials.
I can't imagine my life without art now, and my only regret in pursuing my dreams, is that I did not discover it sooner in life!
